Jet Black and White Eastern Kingsnake

Keith Hillson Aug 07, 2004 02:28 PM

I had this guy outside today to see just how black his black was. Sometimes what looks black is a deep brown etc... This guy is pretty black. I cant pick up any undertones in bright light like I can on most of my Easterns. This is the same King posted below the 36" 2003 Non Locale animal.

He seems to have a little yellowing down the sides and underneath. Us west coast herpers back in the 80's used to rate desert cal kings by how little yellow down the sides and underneath they were. The higher white, the better the snake. The best wildcaught high white cal kings you will find, have yellow down the sides and on the underbelly. Today its only the captive bred "generic" desert cal kings that have zero yellowing.

Maybe through the interests you have awakened among eastern king enthusiasts, selective breeding will take place and eliminate the yellow and produce some all black and white easterns.

It does have a little yellow on the sides but from my expirience this fades with age.

Wow Bro,

I wouldn't care if its locale was mars x the moon as long as it looked like that. Nice grab, stunning.
