look what i found today

after nearly stepping on tons of toads while out hiking my favorite black rat snake area, I allmost expected to find this guy.
even though he is in deepest of blue as we call it, he is so yellow.
this is the second one this year that was this yellow and from the same general area.

Thats a fat snake... looks like a Northern Water Snake sorta... just darker.

it is an eastern Hognose snake.
under its scales it has the brighteset yellow skin, like an eyelash viper.
I'll post again when it sheds.
