shedding

crtoon83 Aug 07, 2004 09:35 PM

i have a neonate black ratsnake and I was wondering about shedding..i've never had one around me when it started to shed before. it has had this flaky white stuff on its scales for the past week or so which i've read means its getting ready to shed and for the past 3 days or so its eyes are glazing over white but nothing so far...been keeping plenty of water in the cage, does it just take long for them to actually shed or is something wrong with him?

In another couple days the eyes will clear up, and then sometime within the next week or so the snake will shed. Everything sounds perfectly normal, except I don't know what you mean by flaky white stuff. Are you talking about bits of skin?

I was wrong in referring to it as "flaky white stuff", it's just parts of his skin that are turning white, which is looking like he is starting to shed and thats what it's seemed like for the past couple weeks, I just didn't think that it would take a matter of weeks, more like a couple of days or so.
