going to daytona and need to build a rack system !!!!

joshhutto Aug 07, 2004 11:28 PM

I will buying ball pythons of various size. probably going to increase the number of animals i have from 10 to about 30. it is no longer space saving to have cages thrown all around the house so a rack system seems to be the most economical way to go. the only problem is i can't seem to find a blue print of one anywhere. any help will be greatly appreciated along with heating ideas. i was thinking of using heat tape but have never used it before so some help there would be great as well. thanks in advance for any help.

ps i would like to add a couple breeder boxes on the rack if at all possible.

Scroll back through the pages of this current forum to find links to the "ladder rack" design. Use the word "rack" in the edit/find function on your browser on each page and you will find it. It was linked very recently.

Then there is also the Markus Jayne rack at the Ballpython.ca site.

Lastly, I recommend the use of melamine spacers when assembling your rack. Go to finegtps.com and read through the cage links to see the spacers in use.

All racks should be built with too much vs. too little gap between the top of the box and the above shelf. This allows the boxes to slide freely. BP's are such bulky snakes that I really emphasize this point.

Shoot for a 3/16" gap. It is easier to fill in the space on too large of a gap than it is to remove material to increase the space. Trust me on this.

With any of the above designs you will have a difficult if not impossible time finding the boxes. Plan on ordering the Iris CB-70 boxes from reptiletubs.com or buying them from a Container Store location in your area. You can check that at Thecontainerstore.com.

I'll let others help you with the heating.
