Wonderful wild-caught Speckled Kingsnake

Passport Aug 08, 2004 12:06 AM

This guy was recently saved from death at a local construction site. All but one of the workers wanted to do him in but that one person stepped in to say he would remove him and see to it that he found a new home. Absolutely docile, calm, and beautiful. I wish he were mine. But at least I got to take his picture.

There are a bunch of construction sites near my house and I've been wondering how to check them out.I figure a lot of snakes are being evicted or killed.

I will sometimes approach the workers and basically offer them a "reward" for not killing the snakes. I tell them not to touch them, but if they can scoot them into a 5 gal bucket or something and give ma a call on my cell, I'll give 'em a couple of bucks for lunch or whatever.
Usually a racer or something like that will be too fast and get away from them, but I do get a few corns saved from a shovel.
Some developers will let you trespass on the property to "clear the area" for their workers. Others will not.
Use a bit of sincere dialogue to warm them up to the idea.
