Do they have undertank heaters? (UTH) whats the temps on the hot side?

leoman89 Aug 08, 2004 12:27 PM

My adult female has an UTH but my baby doesnt the only reason i have it on is because its gotten cooler where i live and she needed more heat i originaly had my adult on just the UTH and she ate but but than i just had her on the 25watt and that when she stopped eatting. so i decided to have her just on the UTH and she started eating alittle again but like i said lately its been cool so i have her on both 25watt and UTHand my thermamiter is one of those that you stick to the tank and it says its like 84-88 but i dont know my baby's temp but she is just on the 25watt and she is eatting fine.so i dont know.

wait nevermind it says that the air temp is like 80 and i know that too loow but i dont know what the floor temp is. but my baby is still eating and she is just on the 25 watt

well that is a bit odd, see what the fecal results say.

The UTH heaters are for their digestion, personally i think they should always be on, even if its very low temp (becaseu its really hot outside or some other reason). Overhead lights are not as important since they are nocturnal and don't like being in the light anyways, ie they won't bask as readily as most other lizards do.

that's just my suggestion

i do have the UTH on all the time and i have some extra papertowel do so it is to hot. and the air temp rises dureing the day to like 88-90 dagrees so the temp it ok. Thanks for the advice.

Sorry i ment that i put down extra papertowel so it isn't too hot and she eats like one mealworm a day so she eats alittle.

Well, maybe the paper towels are too thick? I have a male leo who climbs under his paper towels and lays directly on the glass - I have a UTH. He's been doing it since I got him, and he always eats, is active, very healthy... lol I guess he likes the glass.

You should def. get a fecal done - if for nothing else than to ease your state of mind.
