Rodent Pro vs Big Cheese Who's the better feeder source ?

CeeTee Aug 08, 2004 11:13 AM

I like rodent pro's prices but someone told me they don't raise their own rodents and I don't like that. On the other hand Big Cheese claims that they do raise their own stock but their prices are a little higher. Does anyone have experience dealing with one of these dealers or both ?

Big Cheese does raise all their own rodents. When you order from Chad (Big Cheese himself) you get more than what you're paying for. Awesome facility they have too.

I HAVE BEEN TO RODENT PRO'S FACILITY. KEVIN RAISES ALL OF HIS RODENTS ON THE PREMISES AND HIS FACILITY IS VERY CLEAN.

I would go with Bigchgeese youll be happy ya did last year I compared prices between both, cost of animals shipping to various major cities around the US and it comes out the same or a little in big cheese rodents favor to most places due to the dirt cheap shipping. I buy quite a bit from Chad and his operation is by far the best. Chad can ship a 100 pound box via grey hound for less then $30 I think its actually $22 or $25 something like that, rodent pro $60. Now I dont ship near the volume either of them do and right now I am not shipping anything but I have a greyhound acount and can ship 100 pounds for $30. So why are their rodents prices so much less however their shiping prices double? And no rodent pro do not raise all their animals, they do have a breeding facility but also get some from outside sources.

The last couple of times I have gotten feeders, it was from Jason. Great guy to talk to, packages the feeders excellent... and Jason sells the Big Cheese rodents....
Im sure Big Cheese direct would be just as fine... but I think ill stick with Jason =)

I just got my second order from Big Cheese. 500 hoppers delivered, same exact price as rodent pro. So what was different? They matched the sale price. They shipped two day service, arrived in one. Clean hoppers, properly packed, and most important, they shipped to meet my schedule. Rodent Pro would not ship to accomodate my schedule or guarantee delivery by a specific time. I wanted to be sure that they arrived when someone was home. Any package left at my front door gets hit with direct sunlight all afternoon. Rodent Pro just didn't offer the same customer service. My first experience with Big Cheese was also very good. I will continue to buy from them. There are other suppliers that also package properly and offer a clean product. Sometimes they just can't match the price or the schedule but Rodent Pro wasn't even interested in trying. I also buy locally but sometimes they just can't match the pricing. I don't expect them to lose money and they don't expect me to over pay.

I am using Rodent Pro much more often then I am using anyone else. My last 5 or so orders came from Rodent Pro (in fact I just ordered another $400.00 worth today). I used the Mouse Factory prior to that that the prices and size difference with Rodent Pro was just too much to ignore.
The shipping fees are a bit high and the packaging leaves a bit to be desired but as fast as I go through the rodents now, the Vacuum packing of the other guys is not as important to me as the size and price. I don’t need 1 year self life anymore, just big Rats and I get some monsters from them! It would take at least two Jumbo rats from The Mouse Factory to equal the size of the Colossal Rats from Rodent Pro and the cost would be almost 4x the amount. The Mouse Factory’s largest Rat is 300 grams at $2.50 each where Rodent Pro’s Largest Rat is 595 grams at $164.00 each. I would be paying $5.00 per feeding Vs $1.64 per feeding from Rodent Pro. When you figure 40 Plus snakes each week, that makes a pretty good difference, and if you catch the weekly special right, you will only pay $1.00 per rat! (I did not get it this time though!)
As far as Big Cheese. I have never delt with them so I really can’t say. I do know that I don’t like have people try and talk me down, I give a bottom price when I sell my animals and I don’t like having to talk others down. I would rather deal with the bottom dollar price and leave all the flea market bargaining at the Flea market. Some people like to haggle, I don’t (you should see me try and buy a car, I am ready to explode by the end of the day!), So I would have never thought to ask for a matching price. I would rather he just give it up front?
I have spoken to both Kevin and the Lady that works at the Mouse factory and Both have been great to deal with. If I was a smaller breeder and needed the long time shelf life that The Mouse Factory offers then I would still be using them, but I don’t so I use Rodent Pro for the most part now, Wow what a rant on something that I really never thought that much about LOL

When we used up our Classic Dum's feeders we ordered from Rodent Pro. Its nice that you can order online anytime. Rodent Pro's prices made up for the shipping difference. I figured that each Rodent Pro large rat cost me $2.07 shipped and like Hoppy I used a box so quickly that the lack of vacuum packing was not an issue. I ordered some jumbos from Rodent Pro as well and was impressed with how much bigger they are than the regular larges. Its been so long since I ordered from Big Cheese that all I remember is that I was satisfied with both the service and product I received.
