Panacur question

Melle Aug 08, 2004 11:20 AM

Hi,

Can Panacur be used as a preventative as well, or is it harmful if used and they dont have worms/parasites? Thanks.

Panacur is not an antibiotic, it is an antiparasitic. Since it damages the integrity and the transport function of cells in parasites cell division is not possible. If cells can’t divide parasites can’t live. Dosing with Panacur when not needed has been suspect in causing prolapses in bearded dragons and other lizards. when giving Panacur, you should also give a probiotic.
This is a prescription drug and should only be prescribed and administered by a veterinarian

Thanks for the reply. I just had some leftover Panacur from the one time my Phaorah had pinworms, was just wondering if there was anything I could do with it.
