trouble finding greens for igg

mizar 21 Aug 08, 2004 11:25 AM

I Have spend several hours in my town and and in the area triyng to find greens for my igg. I just cant seem to find any greens... !!! All i find is some already mixed lettuce with some "iceberg, romaine, endive, chicoree and radichio" I spent a lot of time triyng to pick the romaine and iceberg out. Is it okay to give some of that plus i add butternut squash, acorn squash, mango, green beens, green peppers, pears, apple ( not all of these at the same time, lol). And an occasionnal sprinkle or calcium and vitamins ?

Seems i have been found by an iguana ! I have found him at the beginning of the month and now every day i learn more about him

next time you go check for a package of greens called Mesculin Mix..

It has stuff he can eat...

I find it hard that your local store doesnt have greens.. have you tried looking for a produce stand? or look in your yard for dadilion greend.. only use those if you HAVE NOT treated your lawn with pesticides and such...

Other than that you should have made sure you could get greens before you purchased the iguana..

I'm doing my best, and i try to find him a good home but in the meanwhile i'm trying to give him the best possible care that i can. I'm even making plan to give him a more decent enclosure. I would not be very surprise if i finally keep it. I sure ask some question and i'm often told that i should i've check before buying him...I KNOW ! I havent buy an iguana...It's like an iguana buy me ,lol.

Where are you located? Maybe someone lives near you and can tell you where to go.
Good luck!

The store in my town does not carry mustard or collard greens. I even ask them to and they wont, just dont sell enough of them.We are in a small town so i end up having to go to the next town over to get them. But this time of year i grow my own, so they are right out my back door. Tami

I'm thinking about growing my own too. Dandelion will not be a problem , lol. I've visited all the supermarket and havent found any yet. Just iceberg and romaine.

Try a local health food store with a produce section. I find they often carry collards, mustard, dandelion and watercress.

Sounds like you're feeding a great mix of veggies, and I'm glad you realize the greens aren't the greatest. Sometimes if you ask the grocer, they can order things in for you fairly cheaply, they may just not get alot of requests for certain things. You could also consider growing your own, you can buy packets of seeds that will grow mixed greens ( Usually labelled "spring greens" or "mesclun mix" ). Also look in other areas in fresh produce, in the local store I go to the greens are no where near the other lettuces, its over by celery and green onions. Also, pick up the telephone and ask, there may be a specialty store that carries what you want as well. Good luck, let us know how your search goes!

I do a lot of picking dandelion greens and flowers in the yard. Best stuff they can eat, and there's no shortage of them here!
