So far it looks like we'll have 7 out of 8 hatch.... two are out of the egg and in separate containers. Three are pipped. Two of the remaining eggs seem very viable. One seemed to be very questionable, so I pipped it manually (impatience!) and there IS a snake inside.... but it isn't moving, and there's still a big egg mass sort of burying the snake. We're leaving it alone, and after the last egg pips with the baby snakes put all in new containers, we plan on waiting a good 72 hours (or until it smells) to check and see what is going on with that one. But still, if we get 7 out of 8 eggs, we feel good.
I'd hoped to go to my local herp society meeting tomorrow for help with sexing the baby snakes, but alas, they won't all be out of the egg by then. I'll just have to try my best and see what happens.
So far all of the babies appear to be a strong black and white coloration. The papa snake was a high white and the momma snake is a yellow and black dot-dash snake of Newport Locale. I'm not sure if the babies will ALL look white straight out of the egg and later on become yellowish, but if their hatchling colors are anything to go by, they'll all be strong black and stark white colored. They all look "Zebra Banded" (well all two that are out of the egg).
I'm looking forward to posting pictures of all 7 hatchlings.
