9/9 eggs from that last cali clutch laid have all hatched successfully and I have what appear to be 9 very healthy, fat little babies, 7 aberrant and 2 banded. I haven't sexed them yet but will do so in the next couple days after they've settled a bit. I will post pics after they've shed.
At least SOMETHING turned out good this year! Oh happy day

Congrats! I hopw we will be successful too. Here is a picture of the eggs, does this look okay? We are taping up some of the holes on the lid, so the moisture will stay in. We aren't sure how much to cover the eggs. We don't plan on handling them now...just misting them with water. Is it okay to mist the egg, or should you mist around the egg? By the way, there are six eggs now...we think that's it.

Thanks for your help!!

That looks great, they look well placed in the vermiculite. When you mist them mist AROUND the eggs and the sides of the box, try not to hit them directly.

Unfortunately that one lower egg that has a yellowi tint to it looks like it is probably a bad or infertile egg, or what we call a 'slug'. If it is you'll ssurely know it within a week as it will go very soft and start to smell. If that happens (to any of them) just remove it without disturbing the others and throw it away.

Thanks for the post and way to go!!

Yes, we thought that one egg looked odd too. The sixth egg looks great, but we got it right away. That discolored egg may have been the first one and sat in the water too long or something. Anyway, we really hope they make it. We are really excited!! Thanks for your help. By the way...when the babies do hatch, how do you feed them? I know that's a while from now...but just thought I'd ask

Well once they hatch out they will spend a day or 2 absorbing their yokes before they fully emerge from their eggs. So they should be quite chubby at first. This gives them a good start because they will generally not eat (even if its offered) again until after their first shed, and sometimes not directly after that. They will shed within a week or 2 of hatching. I usually offer them a brand new pinky mouse(live at first, then I switch to frozen later on) a couple of days later. *knock on wood* I've had most eat within a week of their first shed, but sometimes it will take a few tries. I've not had any go longer than 2 months, and that one was so fat when it hatched that it didn't even look like it hadn't eaten for that long, hehe.

From my experience cal kings are one of the easiest to get eating, and once they start they generally won't regress unless they're ill.

Congratulations! I'm so glad that you got a good clutch to ease the other frustrations. Next breeding season HAS to be better! I have only 3 more eggs cooking! They are second clutch from a cornsnake, but since the 10 eggs from the first clutch gave me a grand total of one good snake and one kinked snake, I am not holding my breath.

...I bet those last 3 eggs of yours will do just fine Sash =) Just a feeling I have
GL!

And Will, how have you faired so far this year? Well I hope. Didn't you move in the middle of incubation? How did the eggs take it? We may be moving out of state smack in the middle of next season, so I'm interested to hear how it effects things.
