If you were to make an albino black boa it would look pretty much like all the other albino boas.

Underneath all that black pigment is still all the other normal red and yellow pigments that all normal boas have.

That black boa is pretty cool though.

A leucistic boa is your best bet for an all white boa.

snakemannick Aug 08, 2004 08:32 PM

Do you honostly know that for a fact? I mean all I see is black, where do you see red? or any other color?
if it is black it should turn white ? no?
any way cool project to see develope.
good luck.

Nick

I know from experience that most melanistic animals just have a lot of black pigment that overpowers the other pigments that are still there.

If you make it an albino/amel, you just remove the black pigments. The other colors will still be there.

It is possible that this black boa has no other pigments underneath, but it is highly unlikely.

PBM Aug 08, 2004 10:17 PM

Well, is this animal a super motley, or a melanistic boa? If simply a melanistic, what happened to the pattern? I say it's too early to argue "what if's" either way, we should all just enjoy what is before us, and be extremely happy for Alex and excited about another new project for us boa lovers!!! Take care

whats all about the snake, I do agree it is a remarkable boa, I just assumed it would turn completely white when albonized not considering the color in the snake it would have to breed with in order to get the allbino cross.
great project indeed!

An albino boa has changed from the typical grey overall body color and tannish/black saddles and red on tail to an overall white color, orange saddles and red on tail turns orange as well. Teh black outline around the tail saddles on a normal turn bright white so I think you are right in assuming it will produce a kind of leucistic looking animal sine it is not a melanistic boa but a color/pattern variation from a co-dom gene.
Its the super of ca motley to ca motley.
Its probably the most outstandign looking snake ever produced in the boa world. A black boa, now when is my guy in colombia going to send me a leucistic? lol.
I like the colombian super but a solid black one to me is more impressive. A 5 foot solid thick looking animal, WHAT!!!
Anyways, it would be cool though that if crossed with an albino it would be all orange as technically since it seems to be a fusion of the saddles makign it completey just one big saddle(get what i am saying) then since albino boas have orange saddles, hmmmmm SOLID ORANGE SNAKE, i got my money on that......seems to be after a thought that a super motley is a fusion of all pattern on the snake which makes it a solid black color......we shall see, please tell me Alex that it is a boy?!!

It would be nice to see a pic of this snake stretched out. It seems that there's a hint of pattern on its sides, in the bends of the current pic --- unless it's just my computer.

That has got to be one of the most stunning and breath takeing snake i have ever seen!!! I just really hope that it is a super and can be duplicated. Unfortunatly oddballs happen all of the time, and seeing as this was the only one in the litter ... well you all know where im going with this. Anyway once again thats a great looking snake im looking foward to seeing it in daytona next weekend good luck with it, oh by the way is it a male or a female?

Hey Alex,

Absolutely stunning!!!!!!!! Life is so unfair....first I don't win Lotto last night and now I have to look at this, and it's in someone elses posession.

Jeremy Stone Aug 09, 2004 12:52 AM

That snake is HANDS down my favorite Boa of the Year. Major Congrats!!!!!!!! Will be VERY interesting to see if it Stays Black. The Columbian Motley keeps a lot of the purple, but it does change to more of a Platinum color. The possibilities are Endless. Take Care, Jeremy

designersnakes Aug 08, 2004 08:29 PM

Alex, I have to say you have one awesome animal over there. I was wondering if I can borrow him in say 18 months or so.....LOL! I hope to see you in Daytona.
