I got an accuate measurment on my big 02 Amel boy....

MissHisssss Aug 09, 2004 12:37 AM

He is 49 inches (so the 53 inch shed I measured was off by 4 inches). My 02 Blizzard is 39 inches. The amel is MUCH bigger in girth as well. How much more do you think he will grow? I mean.... for how many years do they grow, and with him being this big at two, am I going to end up with a really big snake, or what?

He's already eating adult mice and poops and is ready for more only two days later. Does anyone know the size of the biggest corn on record?

only four inchs off from shed skin to actually size is kinda small. A shed skin is normally 30% or more bigger then the actual snake. At 2 years old and over four feet long your snake would be oddly huge! All of my 02 babies are less then 36" long. I have female corns that are from 1996 that are not that big. Yours sounds like it is going to be the Andre the Giant of the Corn Snake World!, How did you get the measurement on your snake?

His being sooooo big is why I asked if he was unusually big in a post further down this thread. After measuring his shed at 53 inches and then being told not to go by his shed, I took the snake and held the tape measure next to his body as I held him up with his body dangling towards the ground. I had to wait till he relaxed so there would be no curves in his body and he was perfectly straight with the exception of the tip of his tail which curled a bit. I took several measurements by several different methods and still came up with 49 inches (48 on one attempt). I am not exaggerating. There is no purpose for me to do so, in fact, I wish mine were as small as yours. You are more than welcomed to come measure him yourself.... I'd love another persons attempt at it. Maybe I raise super mouse food which makes them get so big. LOL. And I only feed once a week too.

I'd need another person to help me (all my friends are afraid of snakes) and a better camera... and knowledge on how to post it. If I can get all of that worked out I'd love to let ya all see him. So, how many years do they grow before they start to slow down? I don't want a mammoth corn.

I think I heard they do most of their growing in the first 2-3 years...something like that.

that's why I was getting sorta worried. I didn't really want a BIG corn... but now I'm sorta getting in the mood to see just how big he's going to get.

I heard about that, I was just wondering how many years of their life do they do the most growing before they slow down? Three years? Four years? I was just trying to figure out if this guy was going to get much bigger with his only being two years old.

That's a healthy sized corn for any age, much less 2 years. I'd try and find a nice big female to breed with him and maybe try and see if you could get some sort of genetic monster corn going on.

his head isn't really that big compared to the size of his girth. I'm still amazed at how he can down a full sized mouse and then it doesn't even make a lump in his gut. I'll try to get a picture sometime, but someone else will have to put it on here for me.

Actually I don't breed snakes. Mice, horses, and for MANY years dogs... but not snakes. Sounds like an interesting endeavor though.
