Some of you know my dilemma with Monty the rescued Royal (police dispatcher that took him in). I've had him in an animal carrier (any opening over 1 inch duct taped shut from both sides so he couldn't squeeze thru & no sticky could touch him) with heat pad, water, etc. waiting on this durned 48" reptile cage I ordered back when I rescued him out of the street in June. He loves this log I put in there. Has been eating, pooping. temps are right and all that. *Finally* I get an e-mail last night the cage will be delivered Weds.
I am SO broke from paying off mega vet bills (3 infections, surgury, 2 wks in incubator) plus vet bill from a rescued 5 wk old kitten that was out in the middle of the huge Manatee River hanging one foot above the water line onto a pylon. God only knows how long she clung there after someone threw her over that bridge. Her eyes were swollen shut from the salt, and her bottom lip was ripped loose from her jaw. Getting the picture on my vet bills now? And these aren't even my regular pets.
Just explaining why I can't afford to run out & buy an aquarium to fix the following dilemma...
I'm laying in bed watching TV on my night off. Monty stays in the hallway (no AC) outside my room. I hear this noise, so I went to investigate. No Monty in the carrier! I've read enough woes in here to know what to expect on escapes. I grabbed a flashlight and caught him *just* before he reached a huge pile of junk I have stored in the hall from my parents' estate. Lucky for me! Oh man there are soooo many places I would have *never* have found him in this old 1896 Victorian two-story ::shudder::
Now heres my problem. I can't believe he waited 2 months to get out (I thought he couldn't-that will teach me!) Obviously I can't put him back in that carrier as is. Its 2 am and I have NO container. Having to make do. Went & found an old pillowcase from the estate (all mine are super Downy smelly), and I put him in the pillowcase, doubled twisted the top, and rubber banded it tight. Will he be able to breathe in that pillowcase ok? I've already decided I'm taking him to the vet in the AM because hes wheezing very lightly, so I figure we aren't out of the woods with infections, dangit. Vet is gonna have to let me make payments this time.
I'm so worried I'll smother him in that pillowcase tonight!!
Help?
