New Beardie, feeding question

lil_frogger2 Aug 09, 2004 01:24 AM

I just got a new beardie at the sacramento reptile show from sundance dragons,s he's about 7 inches, I'll post some pics later. But I'm goin on vacation in a few days for a week, and my friend, who owns a lizard is going to take care of all my lizards for me while i'm gone. She really hates crickets..so i was thinking, i might put the dragon on pellets while i'm gone. She LOVES her greens, so i dont think it should be too hard. Does anyone have any tips on how to get her started? Thanks

There are several different brands of pellets. Some Beardies show a preference for different brands, sometimes you have to trick them to get them started. Put a large paper plate in the cage and bounce the pellets off it, drop them in one at a time. BDs are attracted by movement. You can also try soaking them in different juices (no sugar added) then bounce them in. Offer the pellets first thing before other foods about an hour after lights on and then again throughout the day. Don’t starve him if he won’t eat them but try for a few days with only offering pellets. You can also feed moisten pellets to the crix about 1 hour before you feed them to your BD. The scent of the pellets will get on them and he may learn to associate the smell. for those that are really stoborn, I heard of a trick here on this forum. use some thread or fishing line and put a moistened pellet on the end. dangle it in front od your BD. since the go after movement it should work.
