leos on jumpstart

sirfugu Aug 09, 2004 09:17 AM

i have a gecko who has been taken to a vet, given antibiotics, and de wormers but she still isnt eating. the vet didnt even tell me anything just charged me 71 for the stuff i listed above. she still isnt eating and ive tried everything besides babyfood (which i am getting today). But i was wondering if anybody knew if geckos could live primarily off of Jumpstart. my guess is no but that is the only way i can get any type of food into her.

What kind of symptoms is your leo showing besides not eating? What are the temps in the enclosure?

shes showing no other symptoms that anything is wrong its just been a very long time since she has eaten any food. ive tried it all and nothing works. in her enclosure right now it is 89.4 and 78.6 on the cool side. its a 10 gal.

But her stools look okay? They're not loose or watery? How does she appear? Is she thin? Does she have sagging skin?

I am going through the same problem. Nothing wrong with husbandry, as I have two others housed identically. The vet has run a fecal and sees nothing. He gave me a 3 time dose of Panacur after I requested a dewormer. Just gave the first dose last week. Time will tell if this works. He told me that it could be cancer, could be genetic, just a bad blood line. All of these breeding of morphs has created very similar bloods. You have to remember these morphs (color) are rare in the wild for a reason. Crossing like animals together to make these traits visable may very well be causing other recessive traits (unseen) to become prevalent.

I know this sounds a little gross but it's what I have to do for a few days. (My leo was full of worms and parasites & wouldn't eat) My vet told me to do this...I'm assuming you have mealworms if not you may want to get some. Squish up the mealworms so all of the stuff in the comes out (squish about 3) then add a little bit of water. Put some in a syringe and then put drops on its nose. If you do this don't do it for long and offer live food or whatever you feed it in the tank. If you do this I hope it works for you.

thanks for the help everyone. she is perfectly fine as far as eveything else goes, fat tail, big belly, bright skin, active and eveything. im certain its not husbandry. ive talked to other people who have had the same problem and im assuming it just must be the breeding issue. ill try the squished worm idea since thats what i feed her anyway. thanks
