Help my cousin's Iguana

Bret_Hart Aug 09, 2004 02:38 PM

My cousin and I recently purchased Iguanas. We both have the same set up and feed the same things but something is wrong with my cousin's Iguana. It eats plenty of greens, squash, and fruit but the area at the base of it's tales is skinny. The rest of the iguana's tale is normal. We both took our igs to the vet and they do not have worms. His ig is acting just like mine moving, eating, and basking. The vet doesn't know what is wrong with it. My questions are what do igs store in their tale fat or water and do you have any idea what is wrong?

How long ago did your cousin get his iguana? It takes some time (a few weeks) to build up the fat in the tail. If he had poor care before you got him, it might take a little while to get some meat back on those bones.

If you've had him for over a month, then it's probably a problem and I don't have any suggestions...

On a sidenote, if your vet had no suggestion about the ig not having tail fat, I'd consider getting another vet - if only for a second opinion

I just called him he said the vet already told him about the fat in the tail. He has had it for about a month. When he first got it the length of the tail looked skinny but not the base but now the base looks skinny and not the length. Is this a normal progression?
