Is it natural?

cappinboa Aug 09, 2004 05:31 PM

is it natural to keep wild animals in cages?... or is that ok... you guys .. this is crazy ... youre getting upset over one person voicing his opinion.. i voice my opinion then you attack with threats and personal attacks.. not one of you passes as a decent human being... and on top of that there has been no proof that the surgery does any harm to the animal aside froma little pain .. and even that is reduced by pain killers.. you have no grounds for argument..

"Is it natural to keep animals in cages?"

NO.

Is it natural for people to build cities and destroy habitat?

No.

Is it even natural for people to wear clothing, or use deoderant...etc....

NO.

The world is full of things that are not natural and may even seem wrong at face value. Is it wrong to keep pets? In a perfect world it would be a mutual "bonding" between animal and human. That's not how life is. Nor is it a natural or right that we are driving thousands of species to extinction and that some species are more common in collections than in nature.(a good example is the "Brooks King".

Is it natural to surgicaly alter a snake to fit our convienience? That is a hot topic here. Anyone who has spent time on these forums knows it's an open invitation to a flame war.

I suggest instead of asking questions that have been fought over endlessly here...Scroll down and you will find plenty of expressed opinions to go with your questions instead of starting more fights.

There is nothing wrong or unnatural about questions...Unless they are asked way too often.

Get my point?

Ok, i will try and not be mean, even though what Frank said is right, starting a topic on venomoids is asking for flaming, and you should know. Yeah, i guess i wouldnt disagree saying keeping snakes in cages is not natural, but if you care for them properly, right sized cage, handeling, feeding, i feel they can be a happy snake. And as far as a snake going under gland removal surgery, i dont know if your referring to the crappy hack jobs, or a professionaly well done job, but snakes have died from the surgery, thats not natural for a young snake to die at a young age from surgery, and as far as only some pain, which pills take care of...ya, maybe the pills help the pain, but pills take a toll on the body. If people knew what advil, aspirin, aleve, ETC. do to your body, it could be very hard on snakes, snakes bodies werent meant to take pills and all those medicines, unless ill.

Depends on the cage.

It is abusive to keep an animal in an inadequate cage that causes it stress, pain or suffering. It is even more active abuse to knowingly and deliberately cause pain and suffering to an animal.

It does not constitute abuse to keep an animal in adequate and comfortable housing with good quality husbandry and veterinary care. Some PETA fanatics may disagree, but the life of the average professionally kept zoo animal is generally a good one, of better quality than it would probably get in the wild.

The life of the average reptile in a glass tank kept by a child or a not too knowledgeable amateur is likely to be a miserable one. In that case I agree completely that keeping the animal under those conditions constitutes abuse.
