possible future corn snake owner..

jananicole66 Aug 09, 2004 06:45 PM

Hello,
I currently own a leopard gecko, who lives in a 29 gallon tank (yea i know, spoiled), and am thinking that in the future (not sure when) I may get a cornsnake.. once i find the room in my house :P My reasons for choosing this breed of snake are that from what i read, they are the #1 reccomended snake for beginners, they are most handleable, hardy, very pretty and quite common.
I was just wondering if anyone who has experience with corns could tell me if i am right in these reasons, and if a corn snake is most likely the type for me. It seems more appealing than a rat snake, milk snake or ball python, the other "typical" beginner snakes.. any insight would be great!

What you posted pretty much sums it up Nicole. You can't go wrong with a Cornsnake. Mine are all excellent feeders, never miss a meal, come in all colors and different patterns. Mine thrive at room temps with a small undertank heating pad at one end. Here is one of my favorites, my 02 butter corn.

wow what a pretty snake I really like the ones that are orange/red... i see them in petstores, teeny tiny little things that looks like they just hatched.. :P and no i will not be purchasing from a pet store, i will find a breeder either around me or online.. i want to get one as young as possible, so they will be tame to me.. thats what I did , after my first gecko died.. she wasnt a leopard gecko like my current one, but she was full grown and NOT NICE at all. I got my leo after my first one died, and she was about a month old.. teeny tiny, i had her fo 3 months, she grew, we went to the vet and she only weighed 8 grams (most breeders dont sell leos until they are 10!!), but after months of putting my hand i the cage for her to get used to, all i do now is put in and 9/10 times she walks right on it and up my arm. I hope to have a young corn so i can get them used to me too!
sorry.. i rambled :P
