Look, here's the new baby I got

gothra Aug 09, 2004 07:36 PM

This is the little one that I got last week, I think its a hypo tang, maybe super if it has less spots in the future, here is a pic (I really need to fatten him up):

Another pic:

A bit of update on the vet visit: I called them and asked if its just deworming, can I do that myself at home, and they said yes so I took a stool sample for them to check, give them the weight (he's 15g), and they gave me the panacur and flagyl plus the correct dosage, so I can give this little one the medicine at home. He'll need another dosage 2 weeks later, the vet said I could just call them, give them his new weight and they'll work out the new dosage (that'll be free of charge too).

Did they give you the Panacur in the liquid or granular form? And what did the directions say on the Panacur? It should be Give the assigned dosage once a day for three days. I'm a vet tech and I know what the prescription is for Panacur. If that's not what it is, then I'd suggest calling the vet and talking to him directly. Also, on the bottle of the Flagyl, is it also called Metronidazole?...other than that BEAUTIFUL Leo. Congrats!

The panacur is diluted 1:9, its not in a original bottle, they did the diluting and the bottle I got just got a label with hand written 'Panacur 1:9' on it. My leo is 15g, and the dosage is 0.07ml. The second dosage will be given 2 weeks later.

I had other leos dewormed by them a few months ago, the 2 dosages were also 2 weeks apart. They did another fecal one or two weeks after the second dosage, and they told me they're fine now. I took their words and haven't have a look at the fecals myself (I've got a microscope), maybe I should do one soon.

As for the Flagyl, its also in a very small bottle, the hand-written label on the bottle reads 'Flagyl-S (Metronidazole susp)', and the bag the little bottle is in is labelled 'Flagyl-Y'?? Anyway, the dosage for this one is 0.04ml. The second dosage is also 2 weeks later.

Does this sound right to you?

When you do fecal floatations, I know you need a sodium nitrate solution. But I'm not in the US, and I can't get Fecasol. What I've got on hand, is a bottle of sodium nitrate powder; its spec is NaNO3=84.99 g/mol. How do I use this, do I just mix it with water? If so, how much water shall I add?
