Does anybody know if there is someone that breeds hot snakes in New York. I am looking for a few snakes, but dont really want to drive to New Jersey to pick them up at the airport. I will go if i have to, but just thought i would check..

What are you looking for? If you're looking for a Glades herps or Coastal Reptile type store/breeder, you're not going to find it. But, if you're looking for a few individual species, there are private breeders.

I was lookin for somebody that breeds a few species of Naja, and a few Bitis species.

Those are the two that I can't help ya with, I don't know anyone in NY that keeps or breeds either, I'm sure they are out there though. Best thing to do is take a trip to Pa when one of the shows are going on, or head to one of the hot dealers that have stores there.

A question I should have asked before, where in NY do you live? There should be a major airport closer to you than Jersey.

I live in Kingston. When i talked to Glades Herp, they told me that the only airport i can have hots sent to was in Jersey. I thought Albany would work, but Glades Herp said no. Im stumped. If you know of an airport that accepts hots please let me know.

Couldn't you send it to LaGuardia? Or JFK?

La Guardia and Kennedy are fine if receiving through DElta. Technically you can't even have them shipped to Newark...that is a violation of NJ F&W laws, though I am sure they do it.

To give you an example, I have an authorization letter from NJFW allowing me transport venomous reptiles to Newark for shipment only(no other possesion aside from to/from airport is authorized). I usually ship NW Air Cargo (because Delta cares not 1 ounce about their customers). Because NW had closed I once tried to ship hots to Little Rock using DELTA DASH (NW Air Cargo didn't serve Little Rock) with someone elses account who was a verified shipper. The Delta attendent said because the actual verified shipper(to whom the snakes were going) was not authorized by NJFW, they would not allow the shipment.

There are some other glitches..e.g, you can ship NW CARGO without being a verified shipper(and they are very helpful too)....BUT NW Closed their terminal at LGA and only accept incoming shipments at JFK...hence the reason why I applied for the Authorization to ship from Newark. This is yet another reason why it would be so much easier to live in another state.

for when I ship those s. c. catenatus that I collected out of Cicero last week. I'm thinking I'm going to go with UPS, no questions.

Yes...I live in Amsterdam NY and I have 2 really good friends who keep/breed hots fairly nearby. One is in Ravena, the other in Schenectady. I'm not sure what my friend in Ravena has right now, haven't talked to him in a while but my buddy in Schenectady has some Naja, and definitely some crotalids..regulars and he has albinos of both as well. If you're interested in getting hold of him drop me an e mail =)
