My Okeetee corn snake keeps on doing something that I've seen Anacondas do...

Hi there:

I have a beautiful juvenille Okeetee corn snake in a woodland vivarium; gravel drainage, plants, drywood twigs, dry woodland forest mix, wood chips, stones, dead leaves etc. There is a huge piece of cork bark covering the back of the cage, and he keeps on squishing himself flat like an Anaconda between the cork and the lid. He gets really flat and wide and squeezed in between. I thought that he was stuck, so I moved him, and then he went right back again!
Does anyone else have "pancake corns"?

Dave,
I have seen many species perform this type of behavior. I personally think it may be a result of the snake trying to thermoregulate AND seek a nice hiding spot. Sometimes they will venture into odd parts of their enclosures IF they cannot find a 'happy' spot to rest. Try adding more hiding spots or hide boxes as well as measure the temps in the area where your corn is continually resting and compare that surface temp to other spots in the enclosure. It sounds like you have a very nice setup...do you have a pic? Good luck and you may want to invest in a TempGun.
