cham safe bug repellant?

iamjason Aug 09, 2004 10:48 PM

now that my panther is growing into his 2x2x4 cage, im considering free-ranging his crickets. but i have a slight problem: i have 2 orchids in his snclosure which live in 5 inch pots packed with wood chips. at times i have seen crickets crawl into the wood chips and disappear. so is there some sort of product i could spray on and around the top layer of wood chips that would discourage the crickets from hiding in them?

Cover the orchid bark with fine aluminum window screen mesh, or possibly a marigold (pyrethrin) based insect repelling dust that you could use on a puppy?

i thought of covering the bark with screen but crickets are so good at finding weak points in an enclosed area and exploiting them, and im sure i wouldnt be able to cover 100 percent. where could i commonly find pyrethin based powder? i was thinking maybe i could put some bug-stop in a spray bottle and spritz it on the wood chips. what do you think?

Check with gardening centers, organic farming supplies, or natural food/products markets.
