R. scalaris pic. I was on a list . .>

for 2 years waiting for a pair from Sacha Korell. I still don't know why they're called ladder ratsnakes. LOL. The heads sure look pituophis to me; complete with a rostral scale. I haven't heard if Sacha has eggs this year, but I did see Rick Cunnignham post a pic of his with eggs recently. The dorsal pattern should give way to two dorsalateral lines as an adult. My pair is unrelated one being produced by Sacha's breeders from France and the other being produced by his breeders from Spain.

You mean somebody made you wait longer than I did? I bet he'll never hear the end of that...LOL.

I believe the ladder like pattern on the dorsum is the cause for the common name. The enlarged rostral isn't as large as in P. melanoleucus, is it? Probably bigger than affinis, though, which isn't upturned very much.

I don't rush a breeder. I like breeders that take the time to make sure the snake is well started. There's alot of stress on the snake in shipping and I think it's best to wait if the breeder is patient too. I wish it did, but not all of our breeders produce every year that we would like. The reason I waited 2 years on the scalaris was that the clutch the year before was female heavy. Sacha was going to trade for a male and then I would have a pair available. I said I would wait and be first on the next year's clutch. That made a trio available for someone else too. My patience doesn't mean I'm not anxious; I just would rather do what is convenient and works for the person producing the snake than to push them to do something they don't and won't do. It generally puts a bad taste in my mouth. That's just my opinion. I'm happy and the breeder is happy. It is supposed to work that way isn't it. Congrats on the Chinese beauty eggs. I have some pics of a couple of my Asians to post shortly.

A lot of my patience comes from worrying about whether I'll get it right, or not, plus being a very small time breeder. Sometimes we can afford to hold out for the right conditions or the right person to work with. But I can't imagine how hard it is for someone who does, like ten times the amount of shipping and receiving I do. I appreciate your thoughts on the subject, T, and have really liked doing business with you in the past. I'll try to get you an email about that South Korean soon. And I hope you didn't mind me kidding around a little with ya. I rarely do that and it sometimes takes people off guard.

Thanks about the stripe-tails. I'm really excited about that. I've hatched quite a few species, but never taeniura before. And besides, it will tell me positively whether they are het for calico, or not. See, we do take chances, and we trust people. I've raised them for three yrs. for the male, and four for the female, not being positive (they come from two different breeders). I love the species anyway though, and it was worth it even if they aren't het. I just wish they were a little smaller for convenience sake.

Looking forward to your pics.
