I dont know if many of you remember, but I'm the one with the Tegu that possibly had gang-green (sp?) in it's legs. Right now he's doing pretty good. He's gone through a shed cycle and the feet/legs are looking much better. I dont think the back legs are going to be any worse for wear, but he may loose one front toe on each foot still. (Which is a LOT better then what we thought was going to happen.) He gets daily soaks, then prodine washes then triple antibiotic ointment on his feet. Then baytril orally every day. The extra work has been VERY much worth it. He's still not out of the woods...but things are looking a bit better for him.
It's getting to be a huge struggle to get the Baytril into him though. I have to give it orally in a liquid form. He knows EXACTLY what the syringe means...and he's started figureing out little tricks to get away from takeing it. Refusing to open his mouth, turning his head at the last minute so I squirt it ON him instead of IN his mouth, and shakeing his head and spraying it all over me are just a few of the tricks he's developed. But I've developed a few of my own...getting the SMALLEST pinky mouse I can find and injecting it under the skin has been a handy tool in getting the meds into him. Heck...I could DIP the mice in it and he would still gobble them down, nasty taste and all.
He's gotten a lot more trusting with me...but I think it will be a looooooong time before he really really trusts me...I keep doing things to him he doesn't like...but I haven't hurt him at all...so basicly I'm the gal that keeps anoying him. He tolerates the daily soaks...but is most happy sitting on my arm/hand to get the ointment rubbed on his feet. He doesnt' like his feet rubbed...but it means he doesn't have to be in the water. He doesn't like me picking the dead skin off his feet...but it means I'm not rubbing his feet LOL.
So...to make a long post short (too late) he's doing much better...but still not out of the woods...and he's proving to me just how cool these guys are by tolerating all my anoyances.
