Opinions regarding tubs for a ball rack...

toddg Aug 09, 2004 11:32 PM

I will post this in the cages forum as well.

I plan to build a rack within the next couple of months and can not decide on a tub size. I have found some with suitable dimensions for width and length, however; height seems to be questionable. The ensuing question is addressed to those individuals who currently house their BPs in a rack:

Is 6 inches a tall enough tub to house a large female ball?

I really like the CB70 Reptitub series, but six inches sounds a bit short. I have referenced other popular rack builders and found that several use this height, some are even smaller. I would be most greatful to hear from people that have experienced housing their snakes in similar tubs and what their opinions are regarding the height. Would you go taller if you had to do it over again.

TIA, most appreciated,
ToddG

I have a 6 tub rack system that cost me under $300.00 to build.
The tubs were Sterilite 39-1/2" X 20-1/4" X 7" 's.
It houses girls that range from 700 to 2400 gram ea.
All eating fine etc etc. ( on newspaper, )
One of the nicer things about larger tubs is the size of water bowl you can use..(I use water catchers normally used for big flower pots).

..it took ten 2'X 4'X 3/4" pieces of melamine and six 1'X 11" pieces of heat tape.

Had to cut the tape, but not the melamine.

WHERE DID YOU FIND STERILITE WITH THOSE DIMENSIONS? That is AWESOME! I can't find anything by me like that. The best I can find is the typical 28q which is WAY to small, imo.

Thanks for the feedback,
Todd

Thanks both of you!

Yes, please email it to me: "numismaniacs@yahoo.com". I had my mind set on the CB70 series, but if I can get one cheaper all the merrier. Did your CB70 come with locking lids and do they have pre drilled holes?

Thanks again,
ToddG

I used the Ball ladder rack plans someone recomended. They were great. I bought the tubs for $6 at Target, they are 41 qt Sterilites. The wood cost under $40 for the sides, which have 4 pieces of 12 inches by 36 inches I think. and the shelves were around $7 each, they are 16 inches by 36 inches. It was really easy to put together and took less than an hour. Email me if you have questions on it.
