Salad Tricks?

Bhelliom Aug 10, 2004 12:18 AM

Hey all

Was wondering who had the best tricks for getting their dragons to eat his greens?

I've got some romaine(coudln't find any mustard or collard greens at the moment but will change when i do) alfalfa, celery, mango, papaya, orange, figs, and radish. I can't really Con him into eating any of it thought....doestn' really arouse his hunter instincts i think since its not moving.

Well, first how old is your dragon? most dragons start eating lots of greens when they are older. I have only had a few babies that eat greens. If it is old enough to eat some mealworms place a few mealworms in a container and then put the salad over the mealworms. The mealworms should wiggle around under the salad causing it to move. That should entice him over to the salad. Another trick is to drip water from the salad onto his nose and the when he licks the water, stick the salad into his mouth. He should at it and if he likes it, he'll try some more. Hope i could help.

Another thing if you haven't tried it is to offer the greens first thing in the morning, and don't offer crickets until later in the day, when they get hungry enough they go for the greens. Of course, this works best with babies, they aren't as stubborn as an adult set in his ways.

Has he only been eating insects his whole life? Usually a beardie would have aqquired a taste for greens long before he's full grown. At his age he should be eating as many greens as insects, and by the time he's two he should be eating greens daily and insects only a few times a week.

Thanks

To answer your question yes he has been on just dusted and gut loaded crix his whole life... and not many of them at that...

I posted a couple months ago about my midget dragon...fixed my problems and he's eating way more and growing... just not greens yet. I should be the poster boy for DO RESEARCH PROPERLY before getting a reptile.

I have the feeling I did stunt his growth though so i'll be surprised if he gets over 14 inches.

I'd just like him to eat more variety
