5th step DIY Turtle Pond (end result)

MotherGecko Aug 10, 2004 12:37 AM

You'll notice most of all in this pic that the pond is no longer in the same location!!! We actually had to move it, athough it wasn't so bad as it only took the better part of a day to disassemble and reassemble at the new place. You can also see some water damage at the bottom of the paneling which is actually from our 'rainy season' here in Florida and our porch gets misted good. Whats great is that there is enough roomon the other end to make an even larger pond! I hope you enjoyed the series of pics of my do it yourself pond.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. The pond is located on a porch and does recieve great sunlight for the better part of the day. (one of the advantages of living in Florida) With the liner being a black heat absorbing color I think they will be fine outside for the winter. I will monitor temps during that time but do have large vision tubs that can be set up indoors for the 4-5 weeks of cooler weather here in sunny Fla. I don't think the pond could survive another move though, I had to add even more reinforcements on the structure after moving as the total water weight is pretty hefty. Mike B.

How do they bask?

MotherGecko Aug 22, 2004 12:02 AM

There are many floating 'outs' for them to bask on such as the large float in the pic. I am adding an extention on it for a large land area with potted plants for egg laying, rather than having to take out gravid females to a laying box for a more natural cycle. Thanks for looking!
