Breeding Superworms

BORG Jun 23, 2003 08:58 PM

does anyone have any good advise about breeding superworms i have found so info on the web but nothing with to much detail(greedy people)
so far i have sucsessfully morphed a dozen into beetles
some questions i have are
how often should i move the beetles?
how many female beetles should i have to produce250worms a week?
what kind of substrate should the beetles be in?(peat or oat mix)
thanks

I can breed mealworms and crickets.I can't even get my supers to turn into beetles, how do you.I think supers are like mealworms you put the beetles together with lots of potatoes.Use bran with oats.Put about 8 sticks as long as the contanier in.Check it every day and see what happens.

i think i got lucky in turning my superworms into beetles a friend of mine also tried but he used film containers and lure boxes for fishing tackle and didnt have much luck the containers i used are what i get my supers in from the local petsmart they are about 4" in diameter and about an inch and a half to 2" deep
also i read somewhere that if you keep them in a warm dark place that helps , so i just put the containers in a box and kept them near my 100w spot and i believe if you stress them a bit it speeds up the process so i dont provide them with food and only pick the biggest worms.
the only thing is that i dont kjnow if i am supposed to move the beetles after they have been in the tuppperware that i have with oats and chicken feed or if i can just leave the beetles in with their eggs until they die?
i hope to be sucsessful soon cause i have alot of hungry mouths to feed with my basilisk hatchlings getting to be a month old now.
hope this helps with the morph process and any info on the breeding of the beetles would be helpful
