Cave Dwelling Rat questions.........

HeckRaiser Aug 10, 2004 02:17 AM

Hi everyone.

I recently saw an adult CD ratsnake at a local herp show. I was shocked at it's incredible beauty and seemingly docile temperament.

I was wondering what everyone thinks of them.
Care..... difficult? easy?
Breeding........ difficult? (in other words should I just get one as a pet, or try a 1.1 pair or 1.2 trio)

I've had corns and kings. And I currently raise ball pythons, Sumatran blood pythons, and Colobian boas.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, as well as who produces the best quality.

off topic....but how does a thread get marked *POPULAR* before anybody replies to it????

How do threads get popular anyway? There is a huge thread in the venomous forum debating over venomoids, I dont know how that one isnt popular.

I love my ridleyi. But mine are anything but docile. They have your typical asain rat personality.
I find them very easy to keep. They like cooler temps than most snakes... mine are great eaters, fast growers, and fiesty fiesty fiesty.

I hope to breed mine next year!!

Very beautiful snakes, and I find them very rewarding to own.

I would love to have lots n lots more... if I could afford them.

They are not typically difficult to keep. They like it pretty cool as far as temp. I keem them at about 78F with a moist hide box included. They eat like there is no tomorrow. Mine are pretty tame, but I understand that this is the exception rather than the rule. Breeding them has proven to be rather easy for some breeders. I hope this is so with us. We will hopefully have hatchlings available next season. Hope this helps.

They are great snakes and are fairly easy to breed...just had a bunch of them to hatch last week.
