bedding for the big burms

throatoyster Aug 10, 2004 06:05 AM

Can you use straw or hay for bedding? I wasn't sure if it had the same effects of pine etc. I'd like to stay away from aspin or something like that cause of the $, and I was just wondering if there was anything besides newspaper at a low cost. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Will

I would not recommend hay/straw for burms. There is too great a risk of the dust accumulated on the hay messing up the sensitive heat sensitive labial pits not to mention the real possibility of a nasty respiratory illness setting in. I keep several very large burms and have never had a single problem with a good thick layer of newspaper. Carefresh bedding is also pretty good as is Aspen...but in the end, paper reigns supreme.
