HI I live on the Treasure Coast in Florida. I'm wondering if anyone else keeps their Veils in an arrangement such as I have which is a enclosed patio with two screened sides south and west through out the year. I'm new to Forida having kept a Jackson in NY state for two years with an outdoor cage during the summer. I've been into herpetology most of my life and was a member of the Long Island Herpetological Society for about ten years but was mainly into snakes, keeping and breeding corn and kingsnakes mainly. However I'm relatively new to Chameleons especially around keeping them in a semi outdoor situation. I know there are cold spells during the winter months where I would likely have to take my Veil indoors but I was wondering if a heat lamp set up on one of the walls of the patio which has electrical outlets might do during some of the colder peroids also. So far the male Veil I bought three months ago seems to have already doubled in size and is doing very well. After initially exploring most of the patio where he has a choice of six or so five foot high ficus and hibiscus plants and several other palms, catus etc he seems to have settled on one ficus to call home which he ventures from on occasion to explore or sun but returns to always. As I posted before he still uses one small area ten foot away from this ficus to defecate which I still find to be very intresting. Any information about raising Chameleions in Florida would be appreciated.
