My lil guy, pics and questions.

Jmorgan Aug 10, 2004 11:22 AM

Hey, well i've had this lil guy since friday night.

I am wondering what is he doing in these pics,

http://www.realityslap.com/~dante/cham/what1.jpg[/img]

There are bout a half dozen more pics in the folder below, But i am wondering what hes doing above? showing the penny? whats the cause of it? is it bad? this was about half hr after lights were turned on.

Also, how does he look in general?? only thing im concerned about is eating.. I put 4 crix in a cup the first day and they all disapeared(legs were broke.. so im sure he ate em) but since then he hasnt' ate the ones out of the cup.. but i've been putting some free in his cage so im hoping hes eating those. Any suggestions on getting him to cup feed? it be alot more reassuring seeing him eat the crix, or knowing for sure hes ate em.

He's being defensive and it is normal. They puff out their throat to make themselves look bigger. They also often puff out their throat, flatten their sides and lean slightly away from the basking light to expose more surface area to the heat. It's hard to say if he's eating all the crix unless you are sure they can't get out of the feeding dish. I'd give him as many as he can eat. If he leaves a crix in the dish he's had enough.

Im pretty sure hes a male, Hes got the nubs on his back legs.

Well good news, hes starting to eat, so it appears.. i got home he hate ate all the crix in the cup, so i put some more.. he ate those as well. He had me worried for a lil bit, but i knew some animals take a few days to get used to their home b4 settling in and eating well.. looks like he was one of those..

i was having trouble with crix getting out of my feeding cup, so what i do is remove both back legs on each cricket with tweezers. then i pinch both of their smaller legs on one side, the small legs dont have to be removed just pinched on the meatiest part. this will assure the crix are completely crippled. ever since i started doing this ive watched closely a bunch of times until my cham comes to eat them, and not one has escaped.
