Do Less Than One Year Old Beardies Need To Brumate?

Syd Aug 10, 2004 02:06 PM

I have two beardies and one was hatched in February and the other in March. I am pretty sure that one is a male and the other is a female. They are currently caged separately and my question is. Should I allow them to brumate this winter and decrease my temps. and lights when the time comes or keep them on a continous summer cycle so to speak through this winter and allow them to brumate next winter? Thanks in advance to all who reply!

You don't need to brumate them at that age unless they decide for whatever reason they want to. Let them dictate to you when they decide to brumate. More then likely they will not brumate until after their first year... but this is not always the case.

Just keep an eye on them and regulate them for activity, alertness, feeding responses, and the like.

good luck,
brandon
