This is my ornate uromastyx pebbles. I have had her (or him) for one year. I think she is about 1 1/2 years old. I am thinking about getting another uro and I was wondering if anyone can help me identify what sex pebbles is. Thanks in advance.

I can't figure out how to post more than one picture in my post, but here is another picture to look at

Deffinately male! The secretions from the enlarged pores would indicate it's a boy! Females have much smaller pores.
here is another shot of my uro

He's quite handsome! I'm not super familiar with ornates, but judging from the waxy secretions and the bright colors, I'd guess male. Please note that *is* a guess!

Looks like a true male to me. The pore are large and waxy stuff is being excreated.

Thanks for your repiles.I know it is not reccomended to house two males together, but is it ok to house a female and a male together? If I do get another uro, it will have to be female because it appears that my my sweet little girl might really be a boy.
Here is another pic of him, sorry I just couldn't resist..

how old is your ornate uro? I have one that is a few months old. I was wondering when your uros colors started changing and brightening up?

He is about one and a half years old. I have had him for a year. The first few months I had him, his color stayed pretty dull. It actually has gotten a lot brighter in the last three months or so. That was one of the reasons I started to think that I might actually have a male and not a female.
I was wondering what you feed your uro? (veggies, insects) Anything special? I hope mine gets that bright and colorful!!!
How big would you say yours is?
Thanks,

Thanks for all the compliments! Pebbles is very flattered.
He is about 8 inches long or so and I feed him a variety of greens like bok choy, mustard greens, dandelion greens, etc. He also eats crickets or small mealworms about twice a week. One of his favorite treats is rep-cal iguana pellets (he especially likes the red ones).
He is a beautiful Uro! I would agree with the many guess that it is a "he".
As for housing Uros together there have been a number of threads on that topic, so I recommend you do a search on them. From what I have gathered the main problems with doing that are 1) making sure the new uro goes through a lengthy quarantine period before being introduced 2) aggression between the Uros and 3) space space space space space. 2 Uros living in the same cage reaquire a VERY large living space, and even with that may become aggressive to the point they cannot be housed together. I have not gone this route for those reasons, but there are many who have that I am sure have voiced their experiences.
Good Luck, and once again , beautiful Uro!
