Who has a Black Tailed Cribo?

happycamper Aug 10, 2004 04:17 PM

I just saw one at a local pet store for $100. Is this a good price? Seemed like it to me. Am really tempted to go back and get it! Looked about a foot long. How do they compare to other drymarchon? Disposition, feeding, growth, housing etc. Any comments welcome. Thanks!

Black-tail cribos are very docile, at least the four I currently have are.
I had a single wild caught specimen, several years ago, that was a bit sheepish, though never outwardly aggressive.
Here is a photo of my six year old son with my 7' male black-tail. As you can see, this is a very docile, and patient, individual, the snake that is!

I have a couple of Blacktails very much like Easterns in temperament, had my female at a snake show last week (selling her babies) & she was a big hit, most people guessed Cobra but everyone was surprised at how calm she was. You don't say if the snake you saw was w/c or c/h, but if it's nice $100 is not bad, just have a stool done if its w/c.

I'm pretty sure it is c/b as it was a baby. My friend has a yellow tail that he paid around $300 for, so I figured $100 for a bt was a good price. His reminds me of a cobra too! Do yours hiss a lot? I like that habit actually...

$100 is good for c/b, most babies are feistier then adults, so many things would like to eat them, some hiss, a couple of my baby Blacktailes tried to bite when I picked them up, but it doesn't last (except with Yellowtailes). Got chewed by an Eastern when I reached for the water bowl right after feeding, spit me out in disgust after the first taste, but they can bite hard, lucky they don't (except by mistake) .
