ant invasion! HELP

jovcham Aug 10, 2004 04:46 PM

I moved recently and at my new place I'm having a very difficult problem with ants all over the place. They are now inside a few of my cages...I dont understand why....the cages are cleaned out daily! they are just marching thru the cages... now I wake up today to see an ant bite on my ambilobe! What can I do to get them out of the cages!?!?!?!?!?!

Ouch that sucks. I am not sure how well this will work but I had an orkin man give me a tip. He said that the little ants are almost unstopable in the summer even with pesticides. He said to put some garbage or food outside a bit away from your house. He said that keeps them occupied out there and since they are being fed they will not have to go looking for food in your house.
Like I said I am not really sure if that works but it may be worth a try.

Jovana,
Get some sort of Bug Boundary or Bug Stop and paint it around the legs of the table the cage is sitting on, or however they're getting to it. They can't cross that stuff, and it should work like a charm.

You can also use trays of soapy water and put bricks in the water and set the cage stand on top of those. Ants can actually live in plain water so it would have to have soap in it. That will solve your problem.

I have a bunch in Alkibiades cheffelaria pot as well. So far nothing has happened. I haven't seen any bites on him, and they only like his cage, none of the others. Good luck. Let me know if you find something that works.

Doug, I've seen ants in the cages before as well, just kinda passing through, but now they've decided to start passing through on the vines and are biting my poor cham.

Typler where can I find bug stop? will vasoline work as well like it does with the roaches? (i guess that would be alittle overly messy though)
