How often do you handle your snakes?

msubigdawg Aug 10, 2004 07:16 PM

This is a question for everyone. I just want to see the differences between everyone. I want to know how often you handle your snakes. I usually handle each of mine once a day. The only times this doesnt happen is after feeding. I usually leave them alone for 1 or 2 days or more, it depends on the size of the meal. I know a lot of folks say it will stress the snake and be bad for the snake. I feel if the snake is use to the handling from young age it will know no difference. Mine seem to handle it just fine and don't seem stressed. So now I just want to know what everyone else does, just to see the difference in each persons care.

I handle mine when i have nothing going on where I might have to put it down and it's not big enough to hang on my neck, i wait 3 days after feeding and 1wk for newbies and then when the coast is clear i will take them out as soon as i come home and talk to them, to get the days work out of my system, as they squeese my neck and i turn red, then i relax lol

I handle my RTB for about 3 hours every 2 days. I wait 2-3 days after each meal (depending on whether she is favoring the cooler or warmer side of her cage) and don't handle her when she's in shed except to transport her to the bathtub for a soak.

I handle mine a couple times a week. Usually when I fill their water bowls and spot clean. Mine are all docile with handling. I also handle them when I'm going to feed them to get them active. They will usually eat after I place them in their enclosure or seperate container.

I handle my snake every night, unless he has just eaten, then i wait 2 days. I also do not handle him if he stays in his hide and doesnt come out on his own, as i don't think i would like to be pulled out of my cozy bed to be picked up by some giant! LOL So that being said, i guess i average holding him around 3 or 4x a week. I also think its a good idea to handle them often when they are young so that later they are used to it.

I handle mine 1-2x a week. Sometimes I don't even take them out of the cage, just pet them and check them all over to make sure everything is fine. I do spend quite a while watching them kinda like fish...lol.
