escaped RES

tacosmom Aug 10, 2004 08:17 PM

Hi all,
My very large res (salad plate size) has escaped her outdoor pond. (a completely fluke) Does anyone have any suggestions on how top lure her back? I live on an ivy covered hillside. The yard is fenced in but it is huge and I cannot find her.
Thanks,
T

Unfortunately after your turtle has escaped there is little chance he/she will come back. hopefully your pond is the only source of water around because that could lure your turtle back. but just because your yard is fenced in doesnt mean anything. turtles CAN dig holes! the only way to ENSURE your turtles will stay in the pond is to put a fence around the pond and make sure there is NO possible way the turtle can escape. i wish you good luck in finding or luring your turtle back, but i dont know of a way to lure a turtle back. i would say your best bet is to make sure there is always water and ample food in the pond if the turtle should decide to return. good luck and best wishes

Thanks. THe turtle pond is totally fenced in and covered but one corner hadn't been latched. The theory is that she was climbing around and her body weight caused it to dip where it wasn't attached. There are 2 other small, available ponds on our property, but no luck so far. I feel so terrible. I have signs up and check the street and neighboring properties daily. Thanks for responding. I am soo depressed!

...put signs up with a picture of the turtle in your neighborhood...it worked for me...turtle was gone for two full weeks when I got a call from a neighbor 12 houses away...

Thanks! I have signs up all over the neighborhood but no photo. Maybe I'll try that. Unfortunately, I live in a very hilly, ivy covered area. My hopes are waning which is breaking my heart.
Thanks for the support.
