Crypto = Cryptosporidium sp
I don't know about anywhere else but I know once every few years we get it in our water supply and go on boil advisory. Very bad for elderly, children, immunodefienct persons, animals, ect...

It is a microscopic parasite (protazoa), Cryptosporidium parvum. It is one of the few parasites that can be transmitted between animals and humans.

Use google to search for Cryptosporidiosis, there is over 61,600 hits.
