How to tell the difference between pregnant and impacted??

Melisondra Aug 10, 2004 09:01 PM

I just got home from vacation tonight and checked on my guys, an I noticed my girl (veiled) was looking quite plump. I cant tell though if she is carrying eggs or maybe impacted? Going down her stomach she is the same till the hip area which then bulges out noticeably when looking from the side. It almost looks like someone drew a line across her midriff. Are there any definite signs to look for for either condition? I felt her stomach a bit but couldnt feel and definite bulges like eggs.

Sorry if I seem like im panicking but ive never had problems with either until now im not sure whats going on. She is still her same green with black spots color and seemed to be pretty hungry earlier. Any advice? Id try to post a pic but my camera is completely horrible with close up so all the pics I took are kinda blurry. I will post one or two if anyone wants though.
lol lele I think it might be my turn...
I am going to call my vet tomorrow and try to get her in for a check up anyway. If she was carrying eggs, should I try to breed her to my male again? or is it too late possibly?

Thanks for any input!!

Sounds more like she's gravid. A vet can probably confirm it. By impacted did you mean bowel or eggs?

I meant Bowel actually. Being gone for the week I havent been able to tell if she was having regular movements etc. I havent seen a new one as of yet which was why I was wondering, that and I cant seem to feel anything that feels like eggs as of yet.
Im getting the stuff to set up a laying tub just in case.

Thanks for replying.

I don't think a cham with an impacted bowel would look like this. It would have stopped eating and been really sick long before it's body shape would change. I don't think you could feel definite egg shapes until they are closer to laying as the eggshell membranes may be very soft and thin. I'm not an expert here though.
