? about chicks

Justin Stricklin Aug 10, 2004 09:04 PM

Alright, latter on when I do get me a green, I will most likely have to buy one that will not eat rodents readily. I can switch realy well, so that should not be a problem. This question does nopt pertain just to a conda but some of my other herps. There is a chicken house that is like 5 minutes away from my house amd would be readily available. Well you know all chicken raisers/farmers feed the chicks this stuff that has a like a steroid in it until 5 days before they ship them. If you know what I'm talking about with this I am happy. I think ALL places that sell chicks do this. Would it be harmful to feed these chicks to something? I am not asking this because of the anaconda that I will get soemtime, but who knows I might need some. Sometimes I can get babies for about $65. I work with w/c snakes plenty so the worming and all is not at all new. Right now I'm wormign my retic(not at this very moment). I am mainly asking this because yes, it would save me a few bucks when feeding some rat snakes and even my sav. monitor, but if there is the slightest risk I will not take it. Now for the pythons/ anies I will switch to rabits as soon as they will feed ont hem, but you know rat snakes and stuff I will feed whatever is safe and parisite free. Do not bash m because I'm trying to save a few dallars because I am doing my research on this and all and amking sure it is safe. Now if I new t was harful I would not even ask so lets not got there. I would apreciate any comments on this.

Why dont you order day olds from someone or the person..they wont waste money pumping with steroids on a day old dead chick. You can feed 2 or 3 day olds for a long time as they are a pretty big animal out of the egg (as big as a small rat). Should give you the time to make the switch anyway. My female green is over a year and she could still take ft day old chicks but i feed her scented small rats which are actually smaller than the chicks i use to scent them. Maybe I dont get your situation completely but I know you wont have to worry about steroids doing harm if there are not any...

feed rodents there a lot better for snakes and got more stuff in them. also pay the extra money for a cb green that is feeding on rodents when u do get a green. wc greens come with a temper and parasites i no the greens at the hamburg show did i could see the ticks and mites on them.

Yea, well I mean the chicks are just 5 minutes from my house and I would rather buy from them than pay shipping for something I could just go down the road a little piece. I do agree that cb are better. I That is what I'm realy looking for actually. I would not buy any snake that is covered with parisites at all. The only way I would buy a w/c is if it were a baby, plump, no external parisites, etc. As for the attitude I should not have problems cahnging that if it is a lil one. They had some cb greens at the last show for only $100. I could only come up with $65 after buying rodents so I did not get one I bought the retic instead. I have fed chicks for quite some time and they sem to have no worse nutritiont han a rat. I know rats and other things have more but they do great. I have never fed chicks that had the steroids. I could use the steroid chicks for scenting so for the conda it would be no problem. I mainly want to know for rat snakes and my sav monitor. Oh, and I woul not feed them chicks only. Do not worry about that. I will feed about 2-3 chicks then a rodent (whether it be a small rabbit or a rat). I will get all my boids/future boids on rabbits when they will eat them. The sooner you get them on them the easier it is on you and the snake. Back to the conda if it has tape worms that is no problem because I have wormd many things and still have some of the w/c thing that had tape worms like 4 years ago.
