First baby out of the egg today...

apeilia Aug 10, 2004 09:14 PM

and it's a tiny one! It was a clutch of 5 eggs that were stuck together - the top one collapsed early on and was at about half the volume of the original egg for the incubation period. Well, that little one survived and hatched out first. It's so small - 27g and about 9 inches, maybe? It's hard to tell the length. It looks rather dehydrated and wrinkly, so I don't know how well it'll do. It's day 63, and I'm STILL waiting for the other four to come out. They are moving around, but they haven't poked their heads out yet. How much of the yolk is normally left in the egg after the babies hatch?

I took pictures of the little one with someone's digital, so I should be able to post them tomorrow.

Wow! 27 grams is really small! Good luck with them though, I hope they all make it and are healthy!

Congratulations April, its a great feeling to produce your own no matter how big they are.... Do any of them look like their Dad? Nice going.

It is very exciting, and I hope the little one makes it. It's definately looking better today - barely wrinkly and pretty active. The others still haven't come out yet, but I don't think any look like the dad from what I can see. Oh well. There are six more eggs and even if none are similar to him, I still like his pattern and he's a good breeder anyway.
I didn't think I put my name in my posts... ?

here's the little one. I didn't take the picture, but that's my hand.
