Not a snake but can you help ID it?

verrykerry Aug 10, 2004 11:02 PM

One of my pharmacists just got back from Cancun Mexico and found this lil feller in his luggage at home. It appears to be some sort of gecko, looks a little like a leopard but not... This is a bad picture but he is about the size of a small paper clip and is living in the smallest critter keeper available.

Thanks,

Kerry in Dallas

The picture is pretty blurry, but based on location I would say it is some form of Banded Gecko.

That is a Medditerrannean gecko AKA Turkish gecko. Your friend picked that guy up in the dallas airport for sure. I breed these little buggers and in someplaces here around dallas they are EVERYWHERE!!!! Try looking by a lighted window at around ten at night and you may see some. These geks were carried over to texas on potted plants from around the Medditerrannean Sea. Right now is hatching time too so thats why he is so small.

Hemidactylus turcicus: Just like the one pictured here. As juveniles they have the banding on their tails. They have pretty much colonized most of Texas.
