Meru Jacktions

Megasomasleeperi Aug 11, 2004 01:21 AM

I have a pair of juvenile Meru jacksonii and a sub adult Chamaeleo hoehnelii. I was wondering if they can be kept outside in their cages in the summer in West Los Angeles Ca. I was also wondering if any one has a male Chamaeleo hoehnelii?
The jacksoniis are about 4 mounths and the hoehnelii is about 8.

I'm not sure about the temps there, but some people have been known to keep them outside even when pretty hot but only by using a reliable misting system to help keep the temps down. I'm too chicken to try living here in FL where the heat and humidity combined is enough to practically suffocate humans...LOL! It makes it seem even hotter.

P.S. I know that Scales had a male Hoe a little while back.

I wouldn't at all risk it. Merumonata are the most receptive to heat out of all the jacksonii subspecies, and cannot tolerate high temperatures of about 83*f . A cool area is also pretty manditory, and if the enclosure is placed outside on a warm summer's day, an area down to the mid 70's would be hard to achieve.

Actually, I wouldn't risk it either, but only because I'm not comforable with it myself. However, personally, I know three different people that keep them outside, one of which is in CA.
