What’s up guys? I currently own a female red tegu that is about a year old and I am thinking about getting a male tegu. I don’t necessarily want to have a male and a female tegu for breeding purposes but I just want to see them interact. I have read that they are very social animals so I think it would be entertaining to observe them interact. Is this true? Also, is it worth the extra money? The cage I have is two stories and its dimensions are 6Lx3Wx4H. Would this be sufficient for two red tegus? Also, would I be able to keep my female red tegu, who is about a foot long from the tip of her head to her vent, with hatchling?

first off, she would probably eat a hatchling. If they dont get along you need to be prepared to seperate them, that means new housing. There really is not much interaction to see. they climb on and over eachother. the only real interaction is eating and breeding. I have yet to ever catch mine breeding. As for eating, with tegus of different size, they must be fed seperately so the smaller one gets to eat and not get eaten. When feeding rats, many times the males will be removed to allow females to eat and not have their meals stolen. As for space, I would recomend something bigger. 2 four foot long lizards in that cage sharing basking and sleeping quarters could get tight.
