day gecko and anole

ivegotabike Aug 11, 2004 10:30 AM

i am soon getting a new 20-gallon tank, and i was wondering if my anole and a small day-gecko like a dull day gecko or a lined day gecko could both live in the same 20-gallon aquarium... ssoooo.... does anyone have any experience with this?

Is it a tall tank or a long one? A 29 tall would be better but they should get a long fine. As long as the anole isnt bigger than the gecko, they shouldnt fight. Give them both ample cover and make sure there are no spots favorable over other ones. This usually works out just fine but if you notice any signs of hostility take them apart. I would personally suggest keeping just one specimen, but if you must keep two just keep an eye out.

I have to say I strongly disagree...I am a firm believer that species of reptiles should never be put with other species. From what I have seen it is more stressful to the animals than it is worth. This stress may not show up right away, they might not fight but I have seen animals mixed with other species get very sick and die from something that they should have been able to fight off and the vet suggested that it was because of being mixed with other species. The stress lowers their immune system. In my experience you'd be better off setting up two separate enclosures.

Best of luck.
