I am convinced that my RES is lonely. He's in the tank all by himself. I have a bubble machine in there, he enjoyed that for a while, now doesn't really pay attention to it. Sometimes I'll put a ping pong ball in the water for him to bat around, but now he has no interest in that. There isn't much activity in the room where his tank is, so I bought a fake fish tank (with fake fish that swim around) and put it next to his tank. Sometimes I will turn it on and have it run for a few hours to give him something to look at. I'm convinced he's a smart guy. People will say that he gets excited when I come to the tank (and that he wants food), but sometimes I'll put food in there and he'll ingore it and just keep paddling to the surface, sticking his head out, it's the strangest thing any of us have ever seen. I take him out about once a week (he opens his mouth at first, but after I pet him under his neck, he calms down and wants to run). Since he is almost 3 years old, I have heard that introducing him to another RES is not a good idea. I can't keep fish in the tank, since I'm already cleaning the tank at least once a week (that'll be more maintenance). Any suggestions? How smart are RES turtles?? Will he survive many more years in the tank by himself? Thanks.
