Successful trips that last couple of weekends!

medmand Aug 11, 2004 01:04 PM

I'm pretty new to this forum and to KINGSNAKE.COM in general, but with the knowledge I've built on my own and from reading your posts, I've had some great findings the last couple of weeks. I'm from Orange County and have been making Friday night trips to the Palm Springs area for about 3 weeks straight and have seen some reptiles I've only seen before in books or on the web. I have so far come across 2-Desert Rosy's, 1-Leafnose, 3-Glossy's, 1-Longnose, 1-Banded Gecko, 1-Red CoachWhip (DOR), and 1-Horned Lizard. I'll be out again this weekend and hopefully will have more good luck. Thanks for the valuable info!

Are you hunting white water? Day or night, road or field? I went a month ago but the heat was keeping the reptiles from coming out, I was going to wait another month for the weather to improve. Was it hot out?

Congrats on you amazing finds. I still hope to find several of those you found!

The leafnose and the banded gecko were both found in whitewater. The leafnose was found at about 10:30pm last friday night and the banded gecko about 2:30am. Both were very small, the leafnose was about 11 inches and the banded gecko about 2.25 inches. It was in the low 80s I think. Everything else was found out near Lucerne Valley. I'll be out in whitewater again this friday night!

Forgot, it was night time rolling into early morning and was all road cruising.

I went down the 247 out of Lucerine Valley towards Yucca Valley once, only found a DOR glossy.

I would cruise the 247 and turn down any dirtroads off the highway that looked undisturbed. Some of the dirt roads were as wide as my truck with brush and rock on both sides.
