female tokay needs?

fliptop Aug 11, 2004 01:06 PM

Hello tokayfolk,

I was finally able to get a female tokay for my unfathomably gorgeous male. She's got good weight, has a well-regenerated tail, and she has slight rostral abrasion.

She's presently in quarantine in a separate room from the male. I think I remember reading on here a while back that some people leave calcium in their female's cage. If it's no trouble, can anyone give me a run-down on special set-ups for females?

Also, because the abrasion is slight, I intend on letting it clear up, unless anyone feels otherwise.

Thanks all,

fliptop

You shouldn't need any special setup for a female unless you have specific problems your dealing with. I use the dish of calcium in with my Tokays so the gravid females can consume additional calcium as they require while producing eggs.

Thanks, Dakman!

If I may, what type of calcium do you use? I've been following this regimen with my male: crickets dusted with just calcium (Rep-Cal); next feeding will be crickets dusted with multivitamin (again, Rep-Cal); next feeding crickets with no dusting. I throw him a thawed pinky or fuzzy from time to time as well.

Hopefully soon I'll be able to produce babies as nice as yours!

Thanks again,

Andy

I use the Rep-Cal with D3 calcium and their vitamin supplement as well. The calcium I leave in the tanks for them to lick as they need does not have D3 in it, to much D3 is not good so I stick to only dustings with it. The current non D3 calcium I'm using is made by Jurassipet. Your supplement regime sounds fine to me. I only dust with vitamins once a week and cal D3 twice, younger geckos and babies would require more during their fast growing stages.
